Canada - January 24th, 2007: Motivated by a recent study which tried to evaluate the importance that people with spinal cord injuries give to sex, the British Columbia Institute of Technology started to develop masturbation devices and special masturbation toys to help handicapped people to enjoy their sexuality.
Accordingly with the study which measured the importance of sexual gratification and masturbation, paraplegics in general answered that regaining their sexual function was top priority. When it comes to quadriplegics, the only thing more important than their sexuality was regaining hand and arm function.
The masturbation toys being developed by the institution are aimed to give back paraplegic and quadriplegic people their sexual function. Specialists say that there are complications regarding spinal injury that makes masturbation and sexual stimulation more difficult. They hope that the masturbation toys would be able to reflex arousal below the waist. Clinical experts and technological experts are making a combined effort to finish the project and research in six to eight months.
