United States, November 23th, 2005: A stratified study with parents of children with ages ranging from 3 to 11 showed what the parents' reactions and attitudes are towards the discovery of their children masturbating.
Surprisingly, results are very positive, showing that most parents recognize infant masturbation as a normal stage of the sexual development. Parents with a higher level of education and particularly parents who assume a more liberal sexual attitude within their relationship tend to be the ones who understand masturbation during childhood better. Same for parents who admitted that also used to masturbate during childhood, which considered the practice a normal activity.
On the other hand, parents with a low level of education or biased concepts due to religious, cultural or social matters tend to show a strong disapproval.
Masturbation during childhood is a part the child's sexual development and it's completely healthy since it's not compulsive or not interfering on the child's life.
